British Martian Colonial Establishment
A gallery to display the models and units created for my Space 1889 wargame setting, divided by the different factions.
The original Space 1889 table-top game rules call the basic squad unit a "Company" so I've designated my forces along the same lines. In other words, my squads of 12 models are called a company, my platoons are called a battalion and my entire force is called a regiment.
British Martian Colonial Establishment
The British settled their first trading colony in Parhoon in 1872, and after establishing good relations with the canal royal family, claimed a regency on the throne after an assassination was made on the ruling prince. Allied with Parhoon, war with neighboring city states solidified the British hold on the region, eventually leading to the establishment of the British colonial entity, including the cities of Syrtis Major, Parhoon, Gorovaan, Haatt and Avenel, to be named the Crown Colony of Syrtis Lapis.
My current force comprises of a regiment of mixed units, that represents not one specific regiment but instead a mixed force such as one formed as a expeditionary column, on campaign in the Oenotrian war or another intervention.
1st Battalion (British Regular Infantry)
Battalion HQ:
A Company:
A Victorian sci-fi inspired unit of British regulars, on extra-terrestrial colonial service. They represent battle-hardened and well-equipped veterans of the Martian theatre. The figures come from the Northstar "Redcoats in Space" range, and Artizan's Victorian Sci-Fi range.
B Company:
The second unit of British regulars are built from Warlord Games and Perry plastics, and the flag bearer is a modified Warlord games model. The unit leader is a metal Artizan figure.
C Company:
The third unit of British regulars are also built from Warlord Games and Perry plastics, and again the unit leader is a metal Artizan figure. All the figures of the battalion are painted with white facings, so represent units from English and Welsh regiments, such as 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers, 31st East Surreys or 24th South Wales Borderers.
2nd Battalion
The 2nd battalion of my battle group is made up of native colonial forces, raised from the Sytris Lapis cities and trained by the imperial British colonial establishment. They are equipped with a khaki uniform, a traditional martian headscarf, and modern British rifles.
Battalion HQ:
D Company:
My first unit of colonial martian infantry are painted with light blue facings and trouser stripes which designate them as part of the 5th Regiment Martian Infantry (raised from the crown colony city Sytris Major). Some of the models are from the RAFM Space 1889 range, and the others are kit-bashed. I use Perry British infantry bodies, with martian feet sculpted from green stuff putty, and heads that use metal Perry natal-native Zulu heads and green stuff sculpted ears.
Cavalry
A Squadron:
A unit of regular cavalry, mounted on horses transported to Mars. These 3 models are the Perry metal 19th Hussars command, although I've painted them as dragoons in red with yellow trouser stripes, and can represent Kings Dragoon Guards. Another 5 will need to be put together to complete the unit.
Artillery
A Royal Artillery unit, armed with a 9-pounder gun. All metal model from Perry Miniatures.
A Maxim machine gun unit. A metal Perry model with an additional loader figure improvised from a Warlord infantryman.
